Blue Heron V  to Flowerpot Island - The Blue Heron V is a 16.6 meter vessel with glass bottom viewing and can accommodate up to 96 passengers. The cruise will transport you from Tobermory to Flowerpot Island. During the cruise to Flowerpot Island we will pass by some interesting sights.  We depart from Little Tub Harbor, one of Tobermory's two natural harbors and the business center of the town. When leaving Little Tub we will pass by the dock for the car ferry Chi-Cheemaun which runs to Manitoulin Island. Next we see Tobermory's other harbor marked by Big Tub Lighthouse, built in 1885, and view two shipwrecks at the head of Big Tub Harbor. These are the wrecks of the schooner Sweepstakes (1885) and the steamer City of Grand Rapids (1907), both shallow enough to be visible from the sides of the Blue Heron V as well as through the glass bottom viewing area. The Sweepstakes is one of the best preserved wrecks of that type to be found on the Great Lakes, with her hull and main deck still fully intact. Then it is off to our destination - Flowerpot Island, which is part of Fathom Five National Marine Park. Famous for the two "flowerpots" or "sea stacks" on it's eastern shoreline, the Blue Heron V will pass right by these on her way around the Island. Next the Blue Heron V will stop at Flowerpot Island and passengers can go ashore. The Island is about 1.6 kilometers wide and covers 200 hectares (495 acres), with well marked hiking trails covering most of the Island. Once everyone has disembarked, and people that were dropped off earlier have returned we continue home back to Tobermory. This cruise is 1 hour and 20 minutes, plus the length of time you decide to stay on the Island if you disembark. If low water levels persist we will not be able to drop passengers off on the Beachy Cove dock at Flowerpot Island. We will be dropping passengers off onto a moveable dock at various locations around the Island. These drop off locations can be rocky with uneven ground.  The Department of Fisheries and Oceans property, which is the area containing the lighthouse keepers residences and the lighthouse, may be dangerous, and visitation is at the travelers own risk. Non-slip footwear is required. If weather conditions change the dock may be moved to a different location for pick up's.There are washrooms onboard the boat, the lightstation and at Beachy Cove.
