Group Information 2008

( spring and fall only - May 10 to June 26 and September 2 to October 13, 2008 )

The Blue Heron Company is pleased to offer your group excellent value and the unique experience of a glass bottom boat trip in Fathom Five National Marine Park.

Our most popular trip for school groups is to go to Flowerpot Island aboard the Blue Heron V. With this trip your group will see two of the parks shipwrecks and then get a chance to explore the natural beauty of 200 hectare Flowerpot Island.
Again this year we will be operating two rigid bottom inflatable boats.  A 13 meter long diesel powered vessel and a smaller 10 meter long model.  These vessels are used to shuttle passengers from the Blue Heron V to Flowerpot Island, or they can be taken directly out to the Island.

Another option is the 2 hour tour of the park aboard Canada's largest glass bottom boat, the 125 passenger Great Blue Heron which will give your group an excellent overall introduction to the maritime history, geology and flora and fauna of the park.

Flowerpot Island Trip

Blue Heron V Description - The Blue Heron V is a 17 meter vessel with glass bottom viewing and can accommodate 96 passengers. The vessel leaves daily from Little Tub Harbor, downtown Tobermory, spring and fall at 9:30, 11:15, 1:30 and 3:30. Your group will see two nineteenth century shipwrecks on our way out to Flowerpot Island where you will disembark. The normal drop off time would be for two, four or six hours, although early departures or late pick ups can be arranged ( may depend on the size of your group ).  We will be dropping passengers off onto a moveable dock at various locations around the Island. These drop off locations can be rocky with uneven ground.  The Department of Fisheries and Oceans property, which is the area containing the lighthouse keepers residences and the lighthouse, may be dangerous, and visitation is at the travelers own risk. Non-slip footwear is required.

Glass Bottom Tour of Fathom Five National Marine Park

Great Blue Heron

Tour Description - Canada's largest glass bottom boat, the 24 meter, 125 passenger Great Blue Heron departs from Little Tub Harbor in Tobermory . The 2 hour tour begins with a visit to two nineteenth century shipwrecks located in Tobermory's Big Tub Harbor. From there we cruise past Doctor Island, around the east, south and west side of  Russel Island, past Griffon Cove and some very shallow underwater shoals typical of the Lake Huron side of the Bruce Peninsula. Then we head north to Cove Island where we will experience some of the more remote and beautiful parts of the Park at  Cove Island Harbor. Heading east it is off through some narrow channels and passages to the Otter Islands, and eventually around     Flowerpot Island.
The Great Blue Heron features include a large glass bottom, a look out bow, snack bar, washroom and if it gets too cool on those early spring or late fall trips, the cabin is heated.
