Snowmobiling in Tobermory

Tobermory is becoming a destination for more and more snowmobilers. There is an excellent trail running through the Bruce Peninsula National Park crossing a wide variety of terrain. The trails are maintained by the Tobermory Snowmobile Club from the tip of the Bruce Peninsula to south of Miller Lake where they continue on to Lion's Head, Wiarton and the rest of Ontario.

These scenic trails wind their way over the ridges of the Niagara Escarpment, around the edge of numerous bogs, fens and beaver ponds. The majority of these trails run through forests of cedar, spruce, pine and tamarack with some maple, beech, oak and birch trees. There is very little open field running. Cameron, Cyprus, Emmet, Upper Andrew and Moore are some of the inland lakes that are adjacent to the snowmobile trail. There is a scenic look out of Georgian Bay at Daves Bay, Dunks Bay and Halfway Log Dump ( Emmett Lake ). The Tobermory Snowmobile Club does not recommend lake riding due to uncertain ice conditions.

There are not a lot of facilities along this stretch of trail, however in Tobermory there is gas, groceries, lodging ( Harborside Motel ), and restaurants. Cameron Lake Restaurant, located 16.3 kilometers south of Tobermory has gasoline and snowmobile oil for sale.

In Bruce Peninsula National Park, camp fires are only allowed in the fire pits at Cyprus Lake campground ( bring your own wood or purchase it the Cyprus Lake Park Office. Washrooms are located at the Cyprus Office and at Halfway Log Dump.

O.F.S.C. ( Ontario Federation of Snowmobile Clubs ) trail permits are mandatory. For more information or trail maps, contact the Tobermory Snowmobile Club, P.O. Box 213, Tobermory, Ontario, N0H 2R0. Maps are also available at the Tobermory Chamber of Commerce office.
