The Tobermory Area
Tobermory is a small village located at the northern end of the Bruce Peninsula, a rugged ridge of limestone separating Lake Huron from Georgian Bay. The Bruce Peninsula is part of a landform called the Niagara Escarpment, unique enough to have been recently declared a World Biosphere Preserve by the United Nations. We are situated in two of Canada's newest National Parks, the Bruce Peninsula and Fathom Five National Marine Park. The village itself is nestled around one of the prettiest natural harbors on the Great Lakes - Little Tub. Daily activity around the harbor includes fish tugs returning with catches of whitefish, dive boats and glass bottom boats departing for the shipwrecks which lie in the crystal clear waters off shore. The Bruce Trail's northern terminus is located in the village and we are the southern terminus for the car and passenger ferry Chi-Cheemaun that runs to Manitoulin Island.
The area is rich in natural beauty and nautical history. Photograph orchids or lighthouses, hike one of the areas many fine trails, explore famous Flowerpot Island and dive on or cruise over one of the areas nineteenth century shipwrecks. A visit or vacation to Tobermory will be a rewarding experience.
We have many fine motels, campgrounds, restaurants and shops. A medical clinic, and a lighted, paved airport are within three kilometers of the village. To help plan your holiday please call the Tobermory and District Chamber of Commerce at 519-596-2452.
